On Thursday, March 5th, STRIDE hosted the next generation of family business leaders in the capital region at Nine Pin Cider. Sonya del Peral – co-owner of Nine Pin – gave a great tour and shared the story of the business. Rosie DeFillipo and Chris Walrath then facilitated conversation around getting to know each other and their business. It quickly became evident that there was a lot of commonalities in the room.
Eliza Orleans – a consultant of family business – shared information on cousin teams, sibling teams, and the characteristics of different generation-run businesses.
Rosie, her cousin Ryan, Chris, Carmine DeCresente, Katie Zilka, and Bryant Abbuhl served as the organizing committee. They did a brilliant job bringing other motivated, sharp, and self-aware next gen leaders to the event. We all realized there was a large commercial real estate contingent because that is a big industry in Albany.
A survey went out right after the event to find out what the next gen is looking for. A founding next gen committee will be meeting early next week to review the results and start planning! What we learned last night is that this generation is a group of doers and they want to connect and don’t want to wait. So, STRIDE will faciliate moving this group forward in a deliberate and expedited fashion.
The hope and dream for this cohort is that they have each other as a sharing cohort for the inevitable challenges, for learning from each other, a social group that gets each other, and to celebrate the victories together.
